Tai Chi (aka Tai Ji, or T’ai chi ch’uan or Taiji quan) is an internal martial art practiced for defense training, health benefits and meditation. 'Taiji' is the concept of the flow of Yin and Yang, and 'Quan' means fist.
The principles of Wudang Tai Chi are based on Daoist philosophy, the natural balance of all things and the need for living in spiritual and physical accord with the patterns of nature. Everything is composed of two opposites, while entirely complementary, with yin (soft, pliant, yielding) and yang (hard, rigid, leading), working in a relationship of perpetual balance. This form of exercise equally balancing between yin and yang, is how it is so remarkably effective.
The body moves as a continual smooth, dance-like flow, combined with core strength, the meditative process and a constant balance of the inner and outer self. When in true balance and harmony, happiness and health lead to energized longevity.
